Project: Point of Care Module

Objective  Build a point of care interface and tools for use in clinical encounters with HIV patients.
 Leads  EGPAF and UCSF

The POC module will be built using a foundation of the existing eSaude retrospective entry system. This includes the concept dictionary, the eSaude framework (OpenMRS), the retrospective data entry collection tools, and the existing reports. The POC project will expand the retrospective entry system to be used directly during the clinical visit, as well as, expand the functionality to improve patient monitoring, data quality assurance activities, program monitoring, and continuity of care between service areas, programs, and facilities. There is strong evidence that the use of electronic health systems in a point of care setting:
  • improve data quality for care and reporting (timeliness, accuracy, and completeness),
  • improve patient follow-up and tracking,
  • reduce staff time and efficiency for data management,
  • improve adherence to treatment guidelines, and
  • result in program cost savings over the long-term (5+ years).

The following chart outlines the primary individuals involved in the project, and their role defined in the "RASCI" column (see here for RASCI matrix explanation).  In the case that an individual has multiple roles on the project, the primary role is identified first and color coded accordingly.
